Save our sleeper carriages
Sleeper carriages have long been a popular feature of our regional train fleet. Now they’re at risk.
Currently on rail services from Sydney to Brisbane, Sydney to Melbourne, Melbourne to Sydney and from Casino to Sydney, sleeper carriages contain two single beds, access to shared bathroom and shower facilities and play a vital transport role for people in regional areas.
But they’re at risk, thanks to a decision by the former NSW Government to scrap them from the new trains being built for regional services throughout NSW.
In 2019 the Coalition State Government signed a contract for the manufacture of the new Regional Rail Fleet to replace the ageing XPT, Endeavor and Xplorer train sets, however contract didn’t include replacement sleeper carriages.
We can still save them though.
No date has been set for the delivery of new train sets – and we can make sure the new trains can provide the same level of service as the old trains.

The original decision to scrap our sleep trains was short-sighted. Regional commuters deserve access to accessible, affordable, low-emission transport services.
That’s why we’re calling for the Minns State Government to arrange for a local train manufacturer to design and build new sleeper carriages compatible with the new trains
The more people who sign the petition, the greater chance we have of ensuring our voices are heard all the way to Macquarie Street.
